September’s Subject is – Did you say Fairisle????

We will be discussing color theory and sharing tips to fairisle knitting.  Also we will be discussing our knit-a-long, Buggiflooer Hat.  This is the Shetland Wool Week hat.  Buggiflooer Hat Pattern is $1 at https://payhip.com/b/kepUH.  We will talk about picking colors for your hat from your stash.

Please bring 2 contrasting colors of yarn, one light and one dark, either fingering or sport weight and a circular needle, 16 inch or 24 inch in size US 2 or 3.

I can’t wait to see all of you.  And I hope you enjoy the Fairisle edition of the newsletter.

Invite all your friends along, this should be a fun one – talking about color is always fun for me.

We will also be able to learn more about the ever popular Shetland Wool Week (https://www.shetlandwoolweek.com/) which takes place in the Shetland Islands on September 23- October 1. Many of the events are offered online for all the see! There is also a KAL for those who are interested.

In addition, we will have show and tell and there will be time for questions and lots of lively conversation!

This month’s meeting should be fun! We will have show and tell, a speaker, time to knit/crochet along with lively conversation!



Our speaker this month is our own Howard Satterlee! Howard is an accomplished crocheter who creates his own patterns for most of the items he makes. He is going to take us on his crochet journey and show us ways to make your own creations without a pattern!

Howard is always entertaining and a fantastic teacher! Even if you do not crochet, you may find you can use the same principles for creating your own knitting patterns. If you want to learn to crochet…Bring a hook and some yarn and you can learn a few things!

Guests are welcome! The more, the merrier!

June Meeting: All things Brioche….(Knitting not the bread!)

Brioche knitting is everywhere! It is featured in Vogue Knitting, Noro and the works of lots of designers. All have featured brioche hats, scarves, cowls, jackets and more…

Now it is your turn to give it a try!

Maryanne Cleary and Linda Fisher will be teaching us about all about Brioche!

Please bring 2 colors of yarn either DK or Worsted weight.  A circular needle, either 16 inch or 24 inch in size US7 or US 8. Make sure your yarn is easy to see the color difference.

If you are not interested in learning brioche, we hope you will still come to the meeting. Bring your latest project and show us all what you are up to! If you have made something in brioche, please bring it along!

May Meeting: Hand Dyeing with Jerry and Cyndi of Ivy Brambles

It is finally here! Jerry and Cyndi of Ivy Brambles/Yarn and Fiber will be conducting our Annual Dyeing Workshop on May 3rd from 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM. Jerry will take us on a fun-filled journey to transform a plain natural skein of yarn into your ultimate hand dyed treasure!

This workshop is great for everyone. It does not matter if you are dyeing for the first time or have been coming every year! There are always new things to learn or different colors and combinations to imagine! The possibilities are endless on what you can create. New to dyeing or a seasoned dyer, everyone’s creations are just amazing.

The cost of yarn is $24 a skein. The weight yarns available to dye are Superwash Worsted (235 yards), DK (296 yards) and Fingering/Sock (410 yards) skeins.

Tunisian Crochet with Toni Lipsey

Toni Lipsey of TL Yarn Crafts is an amazing designer, fantastic teacher and talented author.

Toni will introduce us to Tunisian Crochet. She will be talking to us about the history and much more. Tunisian Crochet has many stitches that look similar to knitting and very quick to complete.

Toni will also introduce us to her book “Tunisian Crochet Handbook: A Beginner’s Guide”. The book walks you though all the tools and gives you a step by step instruction of how to do Tunisian Crochet. It also introduces you to the beautiful stitches found in Tunisian Crochet. Many of these stitches look similar to knitted stitches.

An Evening with Lyn Slade: Embellish your projects with 2-D Needle Felting

Our speaker this month is Lyn Slade a talented needle felting artist, author, and teacher whose works are exhibited throughout New England and beyond.

Lyn will take us on at journey to learn about 2-D needle felting. She will discuss her process by sharing examples of her work and how 2-D needle felting has evolved over the years. Lyn will give a demontration of 2D needle felting as she paints with wool roving and shows how we can use this method to embellish our projects. Here are some of her works:

Lyn’s book, Creative Needle Felting: Wool Art with a Painterly Style is an excellent resource for those interested in learning more about 2-D needle felting.

February Meeting- Knitting the National Parks with Nancy Bates

January Meeting: Resolutions and Fashion Trends 2023

This month’s we will be having the first of two Zoom meetings. We will be doing Zoom Meeting for both January and February.

In January, MaryAnne will lead discussions on what Knitter’s may have for New Year Resolutions and Fashion trends in knitwear. I will also have a Knit Tip section, that I hope to add to every meeting this spring.

In February, we will be hosting Nancy Bates. She is the author of a great book, Knitting the National Parks. This is an awe-inspiring selection of hats that are inspired by the national parks. December – A Yankee Swap with a twist!

We will be having our annual Yankee Swap but with a twist! This year no need to bring a gift for the swap. Maryanne will be supplying all of the gifts to be exchanged. (Thank you, Maryanne!) We are asking people to bring an appetizer or dessert to share with everyone.

This should be a fantastic night full of fun, laughter, good food, great people and lots of surprises! We hope you will be able to join us!
