I love the look and feel of brioche knitting. It is so soft and springy. The stitch definition is amazing. The way two color looks is just fantastic! Here are some photocenters of brioche:

It has alway been that thing I wanted learn but have not been successful learning on my own.

We will be having a hands on Brioche Workshop. You may choose to make either PurlSoho’s Gina’s 2 color brioche Hat or Brioche Cowl. For those who already are familiar with Brioche, there is a hat pattern that starts with a set up row and has a few more design features.

You will need 2 different color skeins of worsted weight yarn. A basic, fairly springy, not too drapey wool for a first brioche project. Superwash versus non-superwash probably doesn’t matter as much as finding something that’s a little bit bouncy and elastic and a little bit grippy (including some rougher superwash yarns like Cascade 220 superwash or Berroco Ultra Wool).

This would be a good opportunity to use some of your hand dyed yarns. A solid/tonal yarn and a variegated yarn or a color changing yarn in Worsted Weight works great. You will need one ball of each for the hat and 2 balls of each for the cowl. Please use whatever size needle you need to get the right gauge as listed in the pattern.

Your homework is to cast on and knit the number of stitches for the rolled edge as listed below.

For the hat is it as follows:

With Yarn A, loosely cast on 88 stitches. We used a basic Long Tail Cast On. Place a marker and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Knit 5 rounds.

For the cowl:

With Yarn A, loosely cast on 218 stitches. Place marker and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.

Knit 5 rounds.

Here is a photo of the hat that Linda started in the last meeting. It is being made from 2 skeins of dyed during our workshop.
